The average lifespan for a woman in the US is now 81 years. That means that for most people by the age of 40.5 years you have lived half of your life. I've just celebrated another birthday and I have to say I'm well over that halfway point. To put it another way I have more days of life behind me than I do ahead of me. Some people find that observation disturbing, but I don't.

By this time of my life I have some advantages. I've seen a lot, felt a lot and heard a lot. This has made me wiser, more tolerant and less likely to squander time. I know that how I experience life is more important than what I possess. I've decided who is important in my life and worth my time. If I have fewer days ahead of me than behind me I am much better equipped to use them.

You may say I'm getting old. But look a little deeper. I'm really making the most of the second half of my 81 years -- with deeper appreciation, less careless waste and plenty of fun. Here's to each year of the second half!
