I can be in a room with another person and not say a word. The need for constant background music, the TV always on or idle conversation about nothing just to be talking isn't me. I am the quiet observer. The person in the room who makes a comment only when they have something to say. I'm not idle when quiet -- I'm planning, creating, opening up to new thoughts. People like me aren't the aberration. We are one way in which our species is fluent in another language -- silence.
If you're one of us you'll quietly understand what I'm writing. If you're not, there will probably be more talking and noise. But we're there in the room wishing everyone more moments of comfortable silence.
