Just a Nap

I love to take a nap. Just a little life pause in the middle of the day. A chance to rest, deflate from activity and relax in the midst of all my busyness. Some people meditate but I prefer to totally turn off to refresh and recharge for the rest of the day.

It may be genetic. My dad and aunts have all done something similar. They can all sleep for a short time and wake up refreshed and ready to resume activity. I must have inherited this. If I skip my nap, which I must do when working or busy, I am more tired, a more restless sleeper and it seems I accomplish less. As an adult many people think taking a nap is childish, lazy or just plain strange. But it's really the opposite. It is the result of listening to my body's rhythms, daring to do what I need and being comfortable with a period of quiet and calmness as part of my daily routine. If all adults did this maybe they would be less childish!

So each afternoon, when I have the chance, I will be pausing with my favorite nap-time pillow and blanket. I will be taking the time to do what I know I need to do to be the best me. Shhhhh...
