As I leave an established career of 30+ years for a new venture I have come to appreciate this quote. It isn't easy to start something new. What seems like a great idea may be stalled by many things. Finances. Lack of time. Talents yet undeveloped. Doubt in yourself. Lack of the right audience. That's when that ugly little sidekick, failure, wants to become your friend.
That little sidekick has taught me a lot in the last year. He's defined my path and pointed me in a more focused direction. I've been taught that I don't want to give up and my ideas do have value. He's made moments of success more exciting. My little sidekick motivates me to risk more and challenge myself.
Of course I want to meet the hero (success). I will be ready to walk with success into an exciting new part of my life. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if I reach back witih a hand and grab failure and bring him along, too. I feel the three of us make a unique and unbeatable team. The Hero, the Sidekick and Me!
