The Pinky Swear

My five-year-old granddaughter knows how to pinky swear. While visiting I promised to play with her in "a little while". Looking for a guarantee, she made me seal the deal with a pinky swear. Her mom laughed and said "if you guys don't keep your word, you know your little fingers will fall off!" I wanted to see if my granddaughter was really paying attention, so I replied "Well, you know how old I am and I still have both of my little fingers. What do you think that means?"

My granddaughter stopped, thinking for a few seconds, and replied "Grandma, that means you always do what you say". I replied "I always try to keep my promises!"

Wow -- I had to reflect on her response. For her it was so simple. But personal integrity is not always so easy. Am I always honest and fair? Do I keep to my own set of beliefs and morals despite what others may do? As I venture out creating my business am I keeping my own artistic integrity in my products and keeping honest business practices? Having integrity is supposed to give us completeness -- keeping us in a state of being true and undivided. I hope that's true in my life. I will work really hard to make it that way. I know for sure that I need to keep both of my little fingers attached. I've got a lot more pinky swearing to do!
